A History of Affirmative Action in the U.S.  - This site goes back to a time when Blacks did not have certain rights. The first link is to the 13th Amendment (the abolishment of involuntary servitude). Other links are to the 14th and 15th Amendments, Executive Order 11246, EEP Laws and Regulations, and more.

BBC News Article  - Here is a foreign perspective of affirmative action titled "Affirmative Action: History of Controversy" by Richard Allen Greene. They also have links to other articles on the site.

Laws  - You will find descriptions of the Fourteenth Amendment, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII, Title IX, and Executive Order 11246.

History and Rationale - This Clinton White House Staff written paper begins with the history of the discriminatiion of "qualified" Blacks and shows the methods to remedy this problem.

Office of Affirmative Action -- U of Iowa  - In the University's Questions and Answers section they discuss such things as "The difference between affirmative action and equal employment opportunity" and "Does affirmative action mean different stands for white males versus everyone else?"

Affirmative Action Register and jobs  - This online publication is aimed at "females, minorities, veterans, and disabled persons as well as to all employment candidates." The latest issue (September 20 to October 20, 2003) has links to employers, states, and job positions.

NOW  - This organization has many articles on Affirmative Action. The last article is in April 2003. In a January 16 article, Kim Gandy is quoted as saying that President Bush's score was much lower than hundreds of other students who did not get into Yale and yet he benefited from preferences.

Affirmative Action in Other Countries  - In this article Pueng Vongs says that much can be learned from the diversity struggles in countries such as Malaysia, India, Brazil, and South Africa. This is a very interesting article.

DiversityInc  - If you register at this site, you get their newsletter, a daily factoid sheet and article. Diversity News is an up to date publication and there is a good number of links featuring events, forums, "hot topics", "Top 50 Companies", and employers looking to diversify.

Homework Help  - This is a good website for students working on an Affirmative Action assignment. It has General, Support, Oppose, and Law categories. Under these sections are links to sites which give the student a clear understanding of the affirmative action debate. Beware of the pop ups!

Teaching Resource Page on Affirmative Action - This site has a huge amount of material for teachers with Affirmative Action in their lesson plans. One of the many links is "The Glass Ceiling Commission" with reports on "invisible barriers to the advancement of women and other disadvantaged groups in employment."

Affirmative Action at Questia's Online Library  - If you want to get information, research, or write a research paper on Affirmative Action for school, Questia is the place. They have over 7700 books, newspaper and journal articles, and Encyclopedia articles on the subject. You do have to subscribe but it is worth the effort.
