Match.com - Match.com is known as the leader in online dating. The free membership offers limited access, and the paid membership offers better chances to meet your mate. There's a fun free quiz you can take before you sign up.

Great Boyfriends - Looking for a man? The men on this site are personally recommended by a female friend. The woman usually provides a photo and a bio. It's free to sign up, but to contact the guy you must join for $20/month, or recommend a guy and get 1 free month. (Men, check out greatgirlfriends.com.)

Love Auctioneer - This is one of the most unique online dating concepts I have seen. You can create a free profile with photo for yourself, and others bid for your email address. A portion of the money goes to the charity of the winner's choice. The site is very simple to use and you only pay if you win the bid.

Friendster - I was invited to this site by friends. It's kind of the "pyramid scheme" of dating/friendmaking and it's free! You just sign up and create a profile. Then you invite others to join, and they invite their friends, and so on. You can connect to any one of their friends to make a new friend.

Spinheart - Here is a nice site if you'd like to chat with other singles online. It's free and similar to other date sites; create a profile and upload a picture. There are also message boards to participate in and you'll have your own mailbox to send and receive messages.

"Singles Organizations"

Singles On The Go Database - Warning: this is one busy site! Everything about dating is located here. The best thing to do, before you get carried away by an ad, is scroll down and select your location. This will take you to a similar looking page with just as many ads, but most will relate to your location.

It's Just Lunch - This is an upscale dating service for professionals. I think it may be a bit pricey, but it's worth it if you're a business professional, and you don't have time to meet someone. The company discusses your ideal mate with you then sets up a lunch/brunch/cocktail date—never dinner.

Adventure Seekers, Ltd. - This club is for Minneapolis' Twin Cities, but the club has affiliations with clubs in New York, Seattle, Portland, Chicago and Tucson. Page to the bottom to view another club. These clubs (membership fee) provide activities for singles without a heavy emphasis on dating.

US Jaycees - If you're single and interested in community service and networking, the Jaycees is a logical choice. Some chapters focus on hefty world-changing goals, while others help on a smaller scale, hosting fund-raising events. Find a chapter in your town by clicking "chapter links" at the top of the page.

Eight At Eight - This organization arranges dinner parties of four single men and four single women. The singles have similar backgrounds and share common interests. There are also other events to participate in, like concerts, wine tastings, and dinner theater.

"Dating Advice"

Virtually Single Online - You can find several advice columnists on this website. Each has links to their own website, and although they're mainly trying to hawk their own books and tapes, most of them will answer your love queries.

Dr. Drew - Dr. Drew from MTV's Loveline has his own website. You can ask him a question or browse the FAQs for hundreds of advice articles on every imaginable topic. The site is very ad-heavy—just click on "Ask Dr. Drew" to get to the good stuff.

LovingYou.com - This site offers an advice column that you can submit your own letter to. It also provides dozens of answered letters for your perusal. The entire site is dedicated to love and romance, so after you've received your advice, you can click on over to Romantic Gifts and buy your love something nice.

DatingFast.com - Here's a nicely designed website for men and women. DatingFast.com provides tips, tutorials and advice on finding, keeping and satisfying your mate. There are also forums on romance, relationships and sexuality.

Brenda's Dating Advice For Geeks - This site takes a humorous look at dating, offering several links for advice columns, horror stories, and hilarious personal ads. Brenda Ross is a dating advisor and from this page you can click to her real advice page on About.com, but this site is mostly for kicks. Enjoy!

"Dating Chat & Message Boards"

Buddydating.com - If you have AOL's Instant Messenger, you can join Buddydating.com and talk to potential mates/friends in real time. If you don't have Instant Messenger, you can download it for free from this site. Create a profile, browse the profiles of others, then chat!

Dating Forum - This is a forum site where men and women can talk about relationships, dating, marriage, sex, and get tips on all of the above. The ads can be a bit aggressive, but there are mature, interesting people on this forum, so it may be worth it to you to check it out.

VP Singles - This free website has a decent membership. It offers a chat room and forum. VP Singles spotlights member's webpages and you can browse other members in the Chatter's Gallery when you're on the chat room page. Beware: "Meet Your Match" and "Personal Ads" links will take you straight to pay sites.

iVillage Relationship Boards - I can personally recommend iVillage if you're a woman looking to talk to other women about relationships. The content is serious or light, never offensive or juvenile. There are so many categories to choose from and you'll make lots of nice friends. Men can join in the discussion too!

Singles Chat Web - This is your basic no frills chat room, but boy is it packed full of people! You can create a brief profile once you log on. It's free and easy to use.

"Dating--Gay"

Gay.com - This site is free and very popular. There are over one million profiles and pictures to browse if you're looking for a partner or friend. The site also has a chat room and a video chat room. From this site, buy music and clothes, read news and event updates, and make travel arrangements.

Planet Out - I like the design of this site. It's simple, and attractive, although occasionally a pop-up ad will surprise you. But the site has so much to offer; personals, advice from Betty DeGeneres (Ellen's mom), shopping, and news.

Gay Hip Forums - This message board seems friendly and has many participants. There are also gay-oriented news updates which should make for some interesting talk on the message boards.

Savage Love Advice Column - If you want some relationship advice, a good laugh, or both, read Dan Savage's often raunchy advice column. Then send in your own woes and be prepared for hilarity.

GoQueer.com - There are pages and pages of advice columns on this website. If you can't find advice for your problem here, you've got big problems.

"Specific Interests"

Black Planet Love - This site offers free and paid memberships to browse the personals of African-American members, but you must sign up for a membership before you can explore.

Christian Connection Network - If you're looking for a Christian partner or pen-pal, this website is a good place to start. It's free and there are busy forums and chat rooms.

Salt and Pepper Singles - This website offers free and subscription services for people interested in interracial dating. You can browse the personals and photos beforehand, so you'll know if you even want to sign up. Once you subscribe, you are allowed to contact a member or participate in the chat room.

JDate.com - Here is one of the largest Jewish singles site online. You can search before you join, but that's about it. You must be a member to utilize other features on the site. I've been checking out a lot of sites while working on this Dating page, and this one has the most attractive people!

SeniorsCircle.com - This is where internet savvy seniors meet. This site offers free membership which allows you to search for a new friend or partner. It's an easy-to-use site without a lot of bells and whistles or annoying ads.

"Speed Dating"

Hurry Date - Up to 25 girls and 25 guys meet at a hot-spot for 25 3-minute dates. A whistle blows every 3 minutes to signify a partner switch. Afterwards, each person lists the people they like. If the interest is mutual, the host will exchange their contact information. That's 25 potential dates in 1 night!

Pre-Dating - This speed dating company usually sets up about 10-12 guys with 10-12 girls for 6-minute dates. Like most speed dating places, the events held in most major cities. You can also choose who you want to meet; Marriage-Minded 35-45, Athletic 26-39, etc.

Minute Matches - This site is similar to the others, though it's not as fancy. You can select all of the events you're interested in from the list, and Minute Matches will notify you with available event dates. Minute Matches usually sets up 10-12 gals and guys for 7-minute chats.
