Country and Continent - A great collection of individual country and continent outline maps from the About.com Geography site. The maps offer a black outline on a plain, white background.

Education Place - World, country, and historical outline maps in PDF format. The maps often have political or physical details, labels, gray water bodies, and longitude and latitude lines. Included is a great map of the U.S. with stars to mark the locations of the state capitals - great for the classroom!

National Geographic Xpeditions - Hundreds of outline maps of places around the world. Click on the image of the map to get increased detail and to more specific maps. The maps can be displayed in "detail" or "basic" (i.e. with place names and some physical features or with none).

U.S. States - Great for educational use or for trying to guess the state by its image, a collection of outline maps of the individual U.S. states. Black outline on white background.

Historical Map "Historical Map"


David Rumsey Map Collection - An amazing collection of historic maps! There are thousands. First, pick a browser (most likely you should choose the Insight Browser). You can then browse through the collection or search by country, state, author, keywords, or data field.

Historical Map and Chart Project - A large selection of historic maps including aeronautical, Civil War, city plans, topographic, and more. Search the database by keyword, region, type, year, or chart number. Then submit. A list of the selected maps will appear at the bottom of the page (scroll down to see them).

Panoramic Maps: U.S. and Canada - Historic bird's-eye view or panoramic maps. From the Library of Congress, a collection of city overview maps from 1847 to 1929. Search by geographic location.

UC Berkeley Digital Map Collection - Thousands of maps from the UC Berkeley Library have been digitized and put online. Though the site isn't particularly user friendly, it's breadth makes up for it. Though there is an emphasis on California maps, there are also thousands of historic maps of other areas.

University of Georgia Hargrett Library - Interesting historic maps of the American Revolution, the U.S. Civil War, the New World, and the Savannah and Georgia areas. The selection of maps date from the 1600s to the 1900s and focus on the United States.

About.com World Atlas - A collection of the best maps on the Web for every country on the planet. Just choose a country from the list to get a selection of detailed maps. From Geography at About.com.

Geography IQ - You have to click a continent and then a specific country to get to the country maps. The country maps are very simple, basic, and several shades of tan. A few of the larger cities are labeled.

Map Quest - Use the box in the top right corner to select a specific country. For each country, this site offers a political map and a small amount of geographic information.

Maps.com - Find a specific country map by first clicking on the continent and then the specific country. The country maps are very colorful and major cities are labeled.

Perry-Castaneda Library - This site has some of the best maps on the Web! The only trick is that you have to locate specific countries by first finding their continent page. Scroll down the page to "Online Maps of General Interest" and choose a continent. Then you will find a large selection of maps for every country.

About.com USA Atlas - A collection of links to the best maps of every U.S. state and territory. From the About.com Guide to Geography.

EPA - Numerous national maps of environmental quality concerns. You can choose from air, land, or water issues. On this site you'll find maps of air quality, pesticide use, toxic waste sites, wetland loss, and water quality standards.

Perry-Castaneda Library - An awesome collection of U.S. maps. There are maps of the entire United States, all the states, and even large cities.

Topographic U.S. Maps - Interesting views of the physical features in the United States. Browse these topographic images by state.

CIA Factbook - Though there are only a couple of maps of the entire world, there are several nice maps of the continents.

Perry-Castaneda Library - A wonderful collection of world maps! Find world maps featuring physical, political, time zones, GDP, ocean currents, and more.

WorldAtlas.com - Several of the same basic world map but each has a particular subject. See a world map that names the countries along the Prime Meridian, a world map centered by the Pacific Ocean, or a map with the largest countries named.

Road Map "Road Map"


Expedia - A great place to get an area map of a specific address or to get driving directions from one address to another. Choose either "Find a Map" or "Get Driving Instructions."

Map Quest - An awesome site! Just type in an address and get a map of the area. Type in to and from addresses and receive specific driving directions.

Maporama - Area maps and driving instructions for numerous countries across the globe. Just insert an address and voila, you have an area map.

MSN Maps and Directions - By entering an address, you will receive a zoomable area map. If you want driving instructions, click the tab "directions" which can be found under "MSN."
