Biltmore Estate - The 250-room Biltmore Estate is a Carolina classic. Completed in 1895, it is still privately owned by Vanderbilt heirs. If you're anywhere near Asheville, do plan a visit. There's always something special taking place on the estate, from fabulous floral seasons to fully decked holiday events.

Tryon Palace - The original eighteenth-century structure was the first permanent capitol of the British Colony of North Carolina. Tours are conducted by guides in period dress, but you can roam the 13-acre grounds on your own. Located in historic New Bern, near the Carolina coast.

North Carolina Lighthouses - Here's a planning-guide to help you create an itinerary for a driving tour of North Carolina's Outer Banks lighthouses. It includes tips to help you find the structuress, and advice to help you determine how much time you should reserve for each one.

Penland School of Crafts - Penland - Penland School of Crafts is a popular center for craft education. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western NC, the school offers workshops in books and paper, clay, drawing, glass, iron, metals, photography, printmaking, textiles, and wood.

North Carolina Pottery Center - Seagrove - The perfect place to go to learn pottery techniqus and soak in details and visuals about North Carolina's pottery heritage. Workshop programs for children and adults.

Sawtooth Center for Visual Art - Winston-Salem - This central North Carolina school offers a variety of classes in ceramics, fibers, painting and drawing, glass, metals, wood, photography, and other areas of interest to artisans.
